Give me some feedback

23 Mar

I came across this video sometime last year from a friends facebook page.  Francis Chan posted it on his blog in July of 2008.  It is a cool short video he did on a plane about Proverbs 30:7-9.  It is only about 2 minutes.  The content seems to be quite the contrary to typical American thinking on savings and retirement.  So watch it and give me some feedback on what you think about it.

    The rational side of me says that, with the proper attitude of the heart, there is wisdom is having a flexible plan for the future, and that includes finances.

    But then my more radical heart kicks in and says “I want to see what God will do. I want to test God like He says to do in Malachi 3 and see what He does.” That is a life of complete faith and dependency, no doubt. And though it shouldn’t be hard decision at all, it’s seems impossible.

      “Though it shouldn’t be a hard decision at all, it seems impossible.” That statement is something to think about. You are right the radical part the heart wants to live in the impossible. How?

    It is a shame that when many have health and wealth they forget about God.

    With this prayer, Agur is asking to not have distractions or temptations that would negatively affect his relationship with God. Agur must have known that his faith would become lax without a proper balance of his finances.

    However, I do disagree with the verse meaning not to have savings or plan for the future. We must have faith that God will provide. We must not steal to provide for ourselves and we must not hoard our wealth out of worry for the future. However, we must be wise with our spending.

    Proverbs 13:16
    A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!

    The money we get is from God and we must care for it and use it to glorify Him and provide for our needs and the needs of others.
    We must be content with the amount He provides and not want for more. In poverty we must not lose faith that God will provide.

    Charity comes first. We must be wise with the rest and not cherish Worldly desires more than God and “the least of us”.

    Proverbs 30:24-25
    Four things are small on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise: The ants are not a strong people, but they prepare their food in the summer;

    Proverbs 21:5
    The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.

    Great video! Makes a person think. I like Francis Chan and do like the way he explains things, especially in his books.
